Love is in the air!

The Hubs is one of those who thinks Valentine’s Day is a lame Hallmark holiday, but he “celebrates” it to appease me {what a guy}.  This year {in the spirit of lowering my expectations}, I decided to try a few things with the kids to make it a day of celebrating love in a FUN way!  I think we all had a good time, it was special, and it didn’t cost much at all.

Miss A and I started our celebration a little early on Sunday afternoon with custom heart-felt manicures.  A wanted red, pink AND fuchsia {why not?}, so we alternated the colors, then topped them off with hearts drawn on with a nail art pen.  I painted my nails fuchsia and did 1 heart on my thumb 🙂

{I ❤ this manicure}

 Monday morning I had a special breakfast for the kids: Jell-O jigglers! {I know, I don’t usually share the kids’ names, but I wanted to show the Jell-O 🙂 }

Of course, in my true {un}perfect impulsive way, I decided to make the jigglers the night before and had to use what I had on hand.  Jigglers take 4 boxes.  I had 2 Grape, 1 sugar-free Strawberry and 1 sugar-free Raspberry.  Made for an interesting flavor…

{darn his long name and our little plates!}

{He said, "Yum! I wuv Jeww-O! Hey, how did the Jeww-O know my name??"}

I love making treat bags for the kids’ holiday parties–this one was no exception.  And because my kids LOVE them, I slaved and included some pretty cute cake pops.

{another pic because they're just so cute!}

{my little heart breaker}

{A's teacher painted hearts on the kids' faces--so cute!}

Regrettably, I didn’t get a pic with The Hubs, but honestly, neither of us was looking too hot that morning.  He did, however give me a nice card and a certificate for a mani/pedi/massage.  Ahhh…can’t wait!    I, being equally sweet, gave him this:

That evening I spent a romantic evening with some of my girls, watching the Bachelor.  I made these bad boys especially for them!

{chocolate cake pops made with chocolate frosting and chocolate candy coating--for my chocolate loving Valentines!}

A dump truck kind of wedding

Tonight The Hubs and I watched “Barbie in The Princess and the Pauper” with the kids {yep, M enjoys a good Barbie movie now and again}.  At the “happily ever after” end, of course they get married and ride into the sunset in a horse-drawn carriage.  M turns to me and says, “Did you and Daddy ride in one of those when you was married?”  I answered, “No, we rode away in a trolley.”  To which he responded, “What does a trolley look like?” I told him I’d find some pictures to show him.  He thought for a minute and said, “Well, I know what a dump truck looks like.”  I just had to laugh.  Yeah, buddy…kinda like that 😉   I just love how his little mind works–you never know what he’ll come up with next!

Making the best of the white stuff

School was cancelled yesterday {bummer!} due to the Big Blizzard of 2011…or something.  Yeah, there was a lot of snow, but it didn’t seem like a real true blizzard.  But maybe that’s because most of it happened during the night and I didn’t leave the house so I didn’t experience the roads.  Who knows?  Anyway, the roads must’ve been good enough for a Trail Blazer to get through because one of A’s friend’s dad drove over to pick A and her friend/neighbor E.N. up for a playdate.  {YESSS!}  Thanks J.I. for that 🙂  While A was gone, M and I headed outside to take advantage of the big piles of snow.  E.N. and her dad had dug a tunnel while shoveling the snow this morning and M was having a great time crawling through it {thanks K.N. for snapping this pic}!

{crawling through the neighbors' tunnel}

 After a while M decided he wanted to dig one of our own, so back across the street we trudged.  It was tricky finding a drift tall enough, but we did it.  Apparently my tunnel-digging skills don’t quite match up to B. N.’s, but I got the job done.

{woohoo we made it through! Yes, the tunnel opening did get a bit bigger than this...}

M had fun crawling through and I even made it through a few times.  I had to wriggle through on my stomach and my claustrophobic tendencies kicked in giving me visions of being trapped underneath the collapsed tunnel, but other than that it was great 😉  And, despite the great amounts of snow and low temps, this mama managed to stay quite warm with all that digging!

Party on Party People!

As promised, here are some of the fabulous photos taken by friend and professional photographer, Emily Rae.  Love them!

The boys had an absolute blast!  I don’t know how I’ll be able to top this party… I give up now!

“I’ll crash; I know I will!”

Today was, for the most part a really cool day:

  • traveled out to my parents’ house for a photoshoot of the grandkids {Pink Tutu Photography}
  • took a nap while all 3 of the kids napped {!!!},
  • went to dinner at one of my favorite pizza buffets {seriously, I love a good pizza buffet} with my parents
  • felt like I was back in college when, after dinner my dad filled my gas tank and slipped me a $twenty 🙂
  • spent a lot of time laughing at the silly things my kids do and the crazy/smart/funny things they say
  • welcoming The Hubs back home after he had been gone for 4 days on a business trip, and now watching Inception {yes, we started it at 12:30am on a school night.  We’re wild and crazy like that}

However, two not-so-perfect things happened today {well, of course more than two, but 2 notable ones}:

  1. I forgot my purse.  Inconvenient, yes.  Major problem, not really.  In fact, I got a free tank of gas and twenty bucks out of that mistake 😉
  2. I almost got in an accident on my way to my parents’ house.  I had to take a turn-around exit to get to my parents’ and as I made the turn-around, I continued to spin out.  In the couple of seconds it took, I offered up a desperate prayer to God.  He stopped us a mere 2-3 feet from the guard rail {thankfully}, but we were facing the wrong way and a semi was coming toward us.  I’m certain God  gave me the calmness I possessed in the moment.  The semi saw me and maneuvered around me.  Several more cars came by before I was able to pull ahead, back up and turn around again…shaking terribly, but alive and unharmed.  Monkey A seemed to notice, but was a little too entranced by the video on the DVD player to fully register what had happened.  Monkey M, on the other had was fully aware of what had happened and almost happened.  When we got to my mom’s, he made sure I reported our “crash” to her, and again later when I talked with The Hubs.  My mom told me that on the way to dinner he told her that he was never going to drive.  As a lover of ALL vehicles, my mother was surprised and asked why.  He replied, “I’ll crash; I know I will!”  Then, when we got in the car to head home after dinner, he panicked a bit saying, “I’m scared, Mom!  I’m afraid we’re going to crash again!”  Poor little guy!  Thank GOD for protecting me and my Monkeys!

I’ll leave you with this sneak peak from the shoot today

I wish I was more embarrassed…

…but I’m just not.  Yes, tonight I spent 2 hours of my life with my girlfriends watching The Bachelor.   Most of our time was spent being face-buryingly embarrassed for the silly girls on the show, but I love my Monday nights with my girlfriends watching silly, silly shows like The Bachelor and talking about how we’d kill our daughters if they ever acted like that in public!

Hello Kitty Bikini?

Monkey A is notorious in our household for running 10+ degrees hotter than the rest of us.  With the AC blasting, she decided she was still too hot, so she stripped down.  At least she got the stickers positioned correctly, eh?

The Fish Ain’t Bitin’

{Where are the fish?}

Using a dismantled bow, Monkey M can’t understand why there are no fish biting in the rainwater collected in an overturned trash can off our back deck.  Not to worry, his active little-boy imagination conjured up plenty of {big!} fish on the end of his line!

Girly Man

{A man, a chainsaw and a paper skirt}

I got The Hubs a chainsaw for Father’s Day.  He’s like a giddy little boy with his toy!  Today it was too hot to wear jeans and he didn’t want his legs to get pelted with tiny pieces of wood so he found this {un}perfect alternative.  I can’t stop giggling!  So {un}manly!
